Importing Animals to Georgia: What You Need to Know

If you're moving to Georgia with a cat or dog, prepare for the paperwork in advance. Read our full guide on bringing animals to Georgia.

The standard package of documents for importing a pet includes: a veterinary passport with vaccination records, proof of rabies vaccination (important: the vaccination must be administered no earlier than 21 days and no later than 12 months prior to entry), and an international veterinary certificate issued by the veterinary service of the country of departure.

A microchip is mandatory: without one, the veterinary certificate will not be issued. Make sure your pet's microchip complies with the ISO 11784/11785 standard. It is important that the microchip be installed before the rabies vaccination. Georgia is introducing mandatory pet registration starting July 1, 2026. We recommend visiting a local veterinarian within the first few weeks after arrival.
