The church of the Virgin Mary in the southern part of Kachreti is the village’s other church after the St. George basilica in the north. A quiet church in the residential quarters by the highway, it lives a measured parish life without the transit bustle of the big road: services, neighbours, christenings.
The pair of Kachreti churches has divided the roles neatly: the basilica meets travellers by the highway, while the Mother of God church keeps the inner, neighbourly side of the village. A short turn, and both churches fold into one call a quarter of an hour long.
One enters freely, with ordinary rural courtesy: modest dress, a quiet voice, respect for the yards and the neighbours. If the church is shut, a look from outside is enough: from the street both the yard and the bell tower are visible.
