The Gurjaani Local History Museum covers the story of the town and the vineyard villages around it. The display introduces the past of inner Kakheti: how people settled here, what they did for a living and why winemaking became the main craft of the district. For a first trip through Kakheti this is a convenient way to begin, an overview of the area saves time later on the road.
The museum sits inside Gurjaani, within walking distance of the central streets. The town itself lies on the Alazani plain between Telavi and Sighnaghi, surrounded by vineyards and small family estates. From here it is equally easy to continue in either direction along the valley.
The museum is open daily from ten in the morning until six in the evening. Half an hour to an hour is usually enough for a district collection. Out of season the visit is easier to plan for the first half of the day.
Tips
- Start your Kakheti route here, an overview of the district saves time on the road
