St. Nino brought Christianity to Georgia in the fourth century, and churches across the country carry her name. This city church in Gori is one of them.
Gori usually appears in itineraries for the sake of the Gorisjvari fortress on the hill above the town and the museum theme, while its churches stay in the background. Yet a city parish differs from a rural one in scale: the people who come are not neighbours from one street but residents of a whole district. The church stands in a residential part, a few minutes on foot from the centre.
On Sundays and major feast days the church gets busy, while weekdays are calm. Dress soberly, with a headscarf for women at the entrance. Namesakes of this church have already appeared in Vale and in mountain Tsakhnistsqaro.
