Sabaduri Forest: how to get there and when to go?
A beech forest near Tbilisi and its autumn colours.
Short answer
Sabaduri Forest is a large beech forest about 45 kilometres north of Tbilisi on the road towards Tianeti, around an hour's drive. People come for walks, picnics and photos, especially in autumn when the leaves turn gold and red. Public transport barely reaches the forest, so a car or taxi is easier.
Why
- Mid to late October is the best time to visit.
- Autumn weekends are busy; weekdays are quieter.
- In winter the forest is beautiful in snow, but the road can be slippery.
Details
Bring comfortable shoes and water, as there are no shops. Don't light fires outside designated spots, and take your rubbish with you.
Tip
Go on a weekday; on autumn weekends hundreds of cars head there and parking is hard.
What may differ
Peak autumn colour depends on the year's weather, usually mid to late October.
