Where is it best to live in Georgia: Tbilisi, Batumi or Kutaisi?

The pros and cons of the main cities for relocating.

Answered at: Checked at:

Short answer

People relocating most often choose Tbilisi, Batumi or Kutaisi. Tbilisi is the capital with jobs, culture, a large Russian-speaking community and hot summers; Batumi draws people with the sea and mild winters, but it's humid, rainy and very seasonal. Kutaisi is quieter and cheaper, with a low-cost airport nearby.

Why

  1. Rent in Tbilisi and Batumi is noticeably higher than in Kutaisi and small towns.
  2. In winter many Batumi cafes and services cut their hours.
  3. Tbilisi offers more choice of schools and kindergartens.

Details

If you can, live in your chosen city for a month or two in different seasons before moving. Some choose suburbs or villages, such as by the sea in Adjara or in Kakheti, but work and services are harder to come by there.
