Fortress complex in Lechkhumi, the landmark of Georgia Muri fortress consists of the main building and a pair of towers - Skiomari and Tsikhnari.
The ancient Muri Castle is famous not only for its military past. Muri fortress was equipped with one of the most brutal prisons, prisoners in it were deprived of the opportunity to move freely through the cells, chained with chains that were fixed to the floor or wall.
Muru Fortress (Skiomari, Tsikhnari) is a complex on the rocky mountains, located in Lechkhumi. At one time, the fortress played a big role in the defense of the city. The castle stands firm against the attacks of the Ottomans and has never been captured by enemies. The castle consisted of three parts: the main building and two large towers.
One of them stood in the east, the other in the west. The main building was nicknamed “Successfully meet". The tower from the east was equipped for protection and was called “Hka Magas”, when the enemy approached, it informed the main castle about the danger. And after the stricken enemy turned his back to the castle, he rested against the western tower “Do not let go".
The walls of the castle also contained terrible stories and events, it was here that the peasants were punished, they were tied to a chain and kept like that for several years. The castle's prison was one of the most brutal.
Now there are four small towers left from the castle, which show that the entrance to the castle was from the southwest. From the east, you can already see the remains of a two-story house, once it served as a palace. In some places, the fence has been preserved.
Since 2018, it has been decided to build a road from the highway towards the castle for tourists and visitors. The castle was included in the list of the most beautiful places in Georgia.
About the castle.
Muri Castle is a historically significant monument and landmark of Georgia. It is located on the border of two cities: Svaneti and Lechkhumi and is an inaccessible fortress for enemies.
Human traces were seen in the borders and surroundings of the fortress: tombs, qvevri, products made of gold, silver and iron. And at the very foot of the castle, the monastery and cemetery of Confessor Maxime, the great philosopher of that time, have been preserved. For the first time the castle was restored in the Middle Ages.
At different times, the fortress belonged to different rulers: Chikovani, Gelovani, Akhvlediani, Kopaliani, Mushkudiani, Kipiani, Silagadze and Inasaridze.
They began to write about the Muri fortress in the VI century, even then the castle delighted the people with its steadfastness and inaccessibility. He never gave up and always withstood every blow of the enemy.
Since the beginning of the XVIII century, the Muri fortress has been acting as the residence of Dadiani, this decision was made due to the location of the castle.
Gildenstedt, traveling through Georgia, mentioned the castle several times in his notes, and geographer Gustav Rade, having met Muri, could not resist and made sketches of the fortress that conquered him.

У крепости Мури какая-то мистическая, мрачная атмосфера, но сам вид её красив и удивителен.
