This architectural monument has a rather rich and interesting history. In the 9th century, the main monastery church was erected in memory of Saint Nino, frescoes of those times are available to residents of the 21st century. Due to the Mongol invasion in the 13th century, there is no information about the activities of the monastery until the 15th century. After the invasion of the Persians in the 16th century, the life of the monks on the territory of the monastery stops.
The next stage in the life of the monastery was marked by the beginning of its activity as a male. It is also known that there was a school at the monastery, which carried out its activities for more than two hundred years. The last novice of the monastery died in 1837, and only 50 years later, at the initiative of Emperor Alexander III, this monastery resumed its activities as a convent, and it subsequently became one of the largest monasteries in the country. During the Soviet times, the monastery was going through difficult times, it was closed and resumed its activities only in 1995.
