The oldest monastery complexes and churches in Georgia. Ikorta and Largvisi.
The temple of Ikort was built in the twelfth century. This temple is an early example of the canonical type of domed churches. The illumination of the temple is the light from twelve windows located in the dome of the building. The facade and drums of the temple are richly decorated with beautiful carvings. The monastery of Largvisi was the place of work of many figures, many manuscripts were copied here.
Domed TempleIkorta it is located on the territory occupied by Russian troops, 35 km away. from the city of Tskhinvali. Not far from the temple stands the ancestral fortress of the Zristavs (rulers) Xani.
The Ikort Temple was erected by George III in 1172. The dome of the quadrangular layout of the building rests on the ledges of the altar and two pillars. The temple is well lit through 12 windows inserted into the dome drum. Fragments of frescoes have been preserved in the apse, on the north side and inside the dome. The facade of the temple and the drum of the dome are richly decorated with carvings. Ikorta is an early example of the canonical type of domed churches Kartli XII-XIII centuries.
The leaders of the Kakheti anti-Iranian uprising (1659): Bidzina Cholokashvili, Shalva and Elizbar Eristavi are buried in the Ikort temple.
The monastery complex of Largvisi is located in Shida Katrli, on the right bank of the Ksani River, in the Akhalgori district, on the historical territory of the Eristavs (rulers) Ksani, currently occupied by the Russian army.
According to historical tradition, Largvisi became a city in the VI century, at the same time a temple was built ("Dzegli Eristavta" - "Eristavi Monument" of the XIV century). Largvisi was the center of the Tskhradzmishevi gorge, there was a fortress - the main obstacle on the way to the Ksani Valley. Famous enlighteners Avgaroz and Grigol Bandaisdze (XIV-XV centuries) conducted their activities in the Largvisi monastery. Many manuscripts have been copied here, many of which have survived to the present day and are currently stored in the National Center of Manuscripts of Georgia.
The monastery complex of Largvisi is surrounded by a fortress wall with towers (XVII century), and inside there is a fortress-citadel. The current church on the site of the XIV century church was built in 1759 by Eristavi Ksani David. The temple has two entrances (from the west and south sides). The temple is well lit thanks to the windows. There is a shelter above the sacristy. The temple has loopholes. The structure is poorly decorated and the facing stone is poorly processed.

Описывается, что храм освещается благодаря окнам и сразу представился вид при входе в храм, а именно как свет падает на тёмные стены. Интересно, как сейчас выглядит здание внутри. И заинтересовал национальный центр рукописей, где находятся и конечно рассмотреть каждую из них.
