Architecture

The miniature church made of local rock stone was built in the 11th century and is one of the examples of early medieval architecture.

The sights of Georgia are famous for their unique decor, combining both folk applied art and the canons of world decoration. The building's modest facades were decorated with paintings by the royal artist Theodore, fragments of which have survived only on the southern facade, where a composition with the image of Jesus is depicted.

The facades are decorated along their length with authentic Georgian ornamentation, the floors of which are decorated with the local epic hero Saint Este, a rider with a bow, guarding the peace of the parishioners. The work of this artist can also be seen on some other religious buildings: the churches of St. Kvirike and Ivlita in Kala, the Savior in Tsvirma and St. George in Nakifari. If you want to see something interesting in Georgia, you should visit these picturesque places.

You can get inside through a rectangular entrance, which is decorated inside in the form of an arch. The altar is set on a pedestal and rises on two steps above the floor of the church. Nearby is the iconostasis, which is separated from the general space by three relief arches.

There are steps on the north and the western part of the architectural work. The church has an extension in the form of an apse, the arched vault is set on columns with pilasters on the southeast and southwest corners of the building.
