The Trinity church in the centre of Bakuriani is a church among the hotels and dachas of the country’s main ski resort. It long ago became part of the resort walks: in winter skiers look in between runs, in summer dacha folk and families fleeing the heat of the plains.
The Trinity church gives the resort what the lifts cannot: a minute of quiet in the middle of a holiday. The place is right in the centre, so one can drop in between errands, on the way from the lift to a cafe, and that is part of the charm of the place.
One enters freely, with the usual courtesy of a working church: modest dress, a quiet voice, respect for a service. At Trinity and in high season the church is crowded: for quiet come early in the morning.
