The Sanikidze Family House Museum is a collection set up in a lived in house: the room settings, the household utensils, the tools, the documents and the photographs of several generations. Museums like this are not built to a plan, they take shape on their own when a family decides to keep what remains. Everything is shown in person, so the account runs through stories rather than labels.
The house stands in Rokhi, a village in the Baghdati municipality, on the slopes at the foot of the Adjara-Imereti range. Around it are orchards, vineyards and wooded hills. Baghdati is under twenty minutes away, and beyond it the road runs towards Abastumani.
The house is small and half an hour is enough. The first half of the day is the easier time, and it is better to arrange the visit through the village in advance. Combine the trip with the Baghdati museums and a wider Imereti route.
Tips
- Arrange the visit through the village in advance
- Combine the trip with the Baghdati museums, the town is close
- Come in dry weather, the hill roads are harder after rain
How to get there
- From Baghdati along the local road, about twenty minutes by car
- Roughly an hour from Kutaisi via Sviri and Baghdati
