Shoshkhoti Monastery is a working monastery amid the wooded slopes by the town of Adigeni. The forest around sets the mood of the place: quiet, coolness and a road winding between the slopes of the Potskhovi valley. The way to the gates takes mere minutes from the town, yet the feeling is of a dayโs journey from any dwelling.
The monastery is valued by locals and by travellers who reach these unobvious parts: Shoshkhoti rarely makes the ready-made routes, which makes the meeting the more precious. Pilgrims call in on the way between Akhaltsikhe and Goderdzi, adding an hour of monastic quiet to the road.
The order of the house asks respect: modest dress, a headscarf for women, quiet on the grounds, and the residents are photographed only with their consent. An hour here stretches easily: the shade, the quiet and the forest do their work.
