The Lasha Gakharia House Museum keeps the setting of the house and the objects tied to the name of its owner: furniture, photographs, documents and everyday things. Mingrelian memorial houses show daily life directly, without museum rearrangement, and that is their strength. Everything is shown in person, so the account is lively.
The house stands in Jgali, a village in the Tsalenjikha municipality, by the Zugdidi, Tsalenjikha, Chkhorotsku and Senaki road. Around it are orchards, fields and foothills. Its position by the road makes the museum a convenient stop on the way.
The house is open daily from nine in the morning until eight in the evening, a long window for a village collection. Half an hour is enough. The trip fits easily into a route between Zugdidi and Senaki.
Tips
- Use the museum as a stop on the way, it is right by the road
- Come in the first half of the day, it is quieter then
- Combine the trip with the church in Tsalenjikha
How to get there
- From Tsalenjikha along the road towards Chkhorotsku, about fifteen minutes by car
- Roughly forty minutes from Zugdidi along the same road
