The theater-studio of actor Mikheil Tumanishvili in Tbilisi is one of the important centers of theatrical art in Georgia, distinguished by its unique approach to theatrical work and training of actors. Founded in 1978, the theater was inaugurated on a day traditionally celebrated as Georgian Theater Day, which emphasizes its importance in the cultural life of the country.

Mikheil Tumanishvili (1921–1996), the theater's founder, was an outstanding Georgian theater director, theorist and professor. His innovative approach to theatrical art and special attention to the psychophysical training of actors made the theater a special place for the creative development of young talents.

The theater's productions, such as Don Juan and A Midsummer Night's Dream, have received high acclaim at international festivals, including the Edinburgh Festival and the First International Shakespeare Festival in London. The production of “Poila Bakula” became one of the most famous and long-running plays of the theater.
