  • Description

The Rustavi State Academic Ensemble is a vivid symbol and pride of Georgian culture, the heir and continuer of the rich traditions of national music and dance. Since its foundation in 1968, under the leadership of the outstanding musician, singer and folklorist Anzor Erkomaishvili, the ensemble has gained recognition both in Georgia and far beyond its borders.

Rustavi is famous for its skill in performing Georgian polyphony, where each singer is both a talented soloist and an important part of the choir. The uniqueness of the ensemble also lies in its composition – singers from different regions of Georgia perform in Rustavi, each of whom makes his own unique contribution to the overall sound. This allows the ensemble to present a wide range of melodies typical of different parts of the country.

The ensemble's repertoire includes not only ancient folk songs and church chants, but also a variety of dances – from traditional Georgian to dances of the nationalities inhabiting the regions beyond the Caucasian Ridge. The choreography of the Rustavi ensemble, performed by high-level professionals, covers wedding and military dances, lyrical and ceremonial compositions, as well as incendiary solo numbers.

Rustavi's performances are marked by bright, traditional costumes and dynamic music that create a unique impression. The ensemble is known for its legendary male fingertip dancing and female flight-like routines.

Over the years of its activity, Rustavi has visited more than 80 countries of the world, giving over 5,000 concerts. The ensemble has performed on prestigious world stages, including the Royal Albert Hall in London and Carnegie Hall in the USA, each time winning the admiration of the audience and critical acclaim. UNESCO, in honor of its 60th anniversary in Tokyo, invited the Rustavi ensemble to hold a concert.

Anzor Erkomaishvili's contribution to the development and popularization of the ensemble is enormous. He not only led the band, but also studied and preserved Georgian folk music, leaving behind valuable written works.

The Rustavi Ensemble continues to delight the audience with its performances, demonstrating the splendor and diversity of Georgian culture, being a living symbol of national art.
