The Kote Marjanishvili State Professional Drama Theater in Tbilisi is one of the most significant and respected cultural institutions in Georgia, with a rich history and a long list of outstanding achievements in the field of theatrical art.

The history of this theater begins in 1928, when it was founded by Kote Marjanishvili in Kutaisi as the 2nd State Drama Theater. In 1930, the theater was moved to Tiflis (modern Tbilisi) and was located in the building of the Zubalov (Zubalashvili) People's Theater.

Kote Marjanishvili, an outstanding theater figure, not only founded the theater, but also gathered around him a group of talented students, such as Veriko Andzhaparidze, Tamara Chavchavadze, Ushangi Chkheidze and others, who made a significant contribution to the development of the theater.

In 1933, the theater was named after its founder, Kote Marjanishvili. Over the years of its existence, the theater has been headed by various prominent personalities, including Archil Chkhartishvili and Veriko Andzhaparidze.

The theater team was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor in 1958, and in 1966 it was awarded the title of academic, which emphasizes its importance and prestige in the cultural sphere of Georgia.

The Kote Marjanishvili Theater continues to be one of the leading theater arts centers in Georgia, presenting a wide range of classical and contemporary performances and remaining a place where new generations of theatrical talent are nurtured.
