The Maglakelidze Family House Museum is a home collection keeping the setting, the documents, the photographs and the belongings of several generations of one family. Town collections of this kind are interesting because they show Tbilisi domestic life from within, with no museum selection. Everything is shown in person, so the visit turns out unhurried and personal.
The house stands in the northern part of Tbilisi, in a block of private houses away from the main roads. Around it are gardens, low buildings and quiet streets. The centre is about half an hour away by car.
The collection is intimate and half an hour is enough. It is better to arrange the visit in advance, and the first half of the day is the easier time. Combine the trip with a walk through the northern districts.
Tips
- Arrange the visit in advance, the house is lived in
- Allow time for the trip, the district is away from the centre
- Check the address on the spot, the numbering in the block is confusing
How to get there
- North from the centre of Tbilisi, about twenty five minutes by car
- By metro to the nearest station, then by minibus or on foot
