  • Description

In the very heart of Tbilisi, just steps away from the famous Freedom Square, lies the historical Lado Gudiashvili Square, surrounded by streets named after prominent personalities. It is like a bridge between the past and the present, combining the breath of the Middle Ages and the architectural ensemble of the second half of the 19th - 20th centuries. This square is decorated with 11 buildings, of which 9 are pearls of historical heritage. Among them, the Blue House stands out - a true legend, which has witnessed many significant events, including the night spent here by the great poet Mikhail Lermontov in 1838.

The square is rich in its history: in ancient times it was named “Bezhan’s Garden”, and later - Mognisi, in honor of the Armenian Church of the Virgin Mary, which had its monasteries nearby. Having become the administrative center of the Caucasian possessions of the Russian Empire in the 19th century, the square retained the echo of bygone times, becoming a place where pages of history and culture intertwine. Reflecting changing eras, it has been renamed in honor of prominent figures, including the Bolshevik Stefan Alaverdov, and finally in honor of the great artist Lado Gudiashvili since 1988.

Lado Gudiashvili Square is not just a street intersection. This is a place where stories live, where every stone preserves the memory of the past. Here you can feel the soul of Tbilisi, its hospitality and cultural wealth. Travelers and history buffs, as well as everyone who wants to touch a living legend, should definitely visit this corner of the city to see with their own eyes how centuries intertwine in one place.
