Temple of the Iveron Icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Tbilisi, Georgia

In the very heart of Tbilisi, on the eastern slopes of Mount Mahati, rises the majestic Temple of the Iveron Icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This modern cathedral is not only a symbol of faith, but also the embodiment of a thousand-year history and spiritual significance for the Georgian people.

Starting its journey in 2002 as part of the monastery complex, the temple was dedicated to John, Ekvtima and George of Mtatsminda. The construction of the first church was completed in 2006. However, the real splendor of this shrine began with the founding of the Iveria Foundation in 2010. This fund became not only a source of financing for the construction of the cathedral, but also a symbol of national devotion. Citizen donations became the cornerstone in the construction of this magnificence.

The construction of the temple began with a great event - the laying of the foundation on April 17, 2012, which was attended by Patriarch Ilia II, President Mikheil Saakashvili, as well as prominent parliamentarians and public figures. In 2015, the construction of the temple was completed, and its domes were crowned with a shirt in 2017. And to provide easy access to this shrine, a road connecting Sameba and Mahati was built in 2016.

On May 12, 2019, during the Feast of the Mother of God, the temple was blessed and consecrated.
