St. George, patron of Georgia, remains the most frequent dedication of the region, and Sveneti keeps to that norm. The church here is the only church site of the village.
Sveneti lies north-east of Gori, between the city and the Mtkvari valley. The main practical advantage of the place is that you can walk up to the church at any time of day: if the city churches of Gori have already closed and you missed the Trinity church, it is worth calling in here without regard to the hour.
Giorgoba, the day of St. George, is kept twice a year in Georgia, in spring and in November, and on those days the village is busier than usual. No dating has become attached to the building. Dress soberly, women bring a headscarf.
