The shrine of St. George in Geri village is known by several names: in Georgian it is Geris Jvari, the cross of Geri, and in Ossetian Jery dzuar. The place is revered by Georgians and Ossetians alike.
Geri lies in the mountains northeast of Tskhinvali, high above the valleys of the Great Liakhvi tributaries. The road climbs here in serpentines, and the shrine itself stands in plain view.
The village lies beyond the dividing line. A route here is planned in advance, against the access rules in force.
