The church of St. George stands in Azmana, a village on the southern, Vardzia side of Aspindza municipality, among the folds of the Javakheti plateau.
A few kilometres away lie the villages of Agara and Akhchia with churches of their own, and beyond them the Kura valley leads to the cave town of Vardzia. The St. George church of Azmana thus stands at the edge of a whole cluster of Aspindza shrines.
