The church carries the name of the Ghevondyants, the priest martyrs of the Armenian church: so are called the clergy led by Ghevond, whose memory is kept in the Armenian tradition on a separate day before Lent. Dedications of this kind are not frequent in Javakheti.
Patara Gondra lies in the western part of the plateau, roughly halfway between Ninotsminda and Akhalkalaki, about twelve kilometres from either town. Neighbours are near: the church of Didi Konduri village about a kilometre and a half away, the Armenian church of St. Gregory three.
The names of the villages around sound alike and are easy to confuse, so on the ground follow the coordinates. The church is opened mostly for services, though it is always visible from outside. Dress modestly, keep the yard quiet.
