In the depths of Samegrelo, in the peaceful village of Taia, Chkhorotsku municipality, stands the Otsindale Church, dedicated to St. George. Its roots go back to the 11th century, and in the 19th century, during the reign of Queen Tamar, it underwent reconstruction, as evidenced by even the inscription on its walls. This sacred temple has become an integral part of the religious life of the region, gathering people from all over Samegrelo to celebrate Giorgoba, the days of St. George the Victorious.
Architecturally, the Otsindale Church is a majestic hall-type structure with graceful extensions and a vestibule on the north side. Its eastern and southern facades are decorated with exquisite arches, and in the center of the southern facade there is a majestic rectangular entrance crowned with a semicircular tympanum. The interior hall is illuminated by four windows, each with its own unique frame. The facades are completed by graceful cornices in the shape of a fillet, giving the church special grandeur.
The ruins of the fortress adjacent to the Otsindale Church probably precede the temple in time of creation. Their presence adds a mystical charm to this historical place.
We invite everyone who seeks to immerse themselves in the ancient history and architectural heritage of Georgia to visit this amazing temple. Here, among the stone walls, imbued with age-old wisdom, you can feel the grandeur and spiritual power of this place, which continues to inspire and amaze generations.
