A village church of Saint George. The village name translates roughly as a place of merriment, from a Georgian root tied to feasting and joy: it was usually applied to places where manor houses or country retreats stood and where people came to rest.
Salkhino lies north of Zugdidi and the road to it leaves the district highway. Western Georgia has several villages of this name and this is not the only one: near namesakes exist in other districts of Samegrelo as well. The age of the building is not established and no builders are recorded.
The church is in use and the parish is a rural one. Dress modestly, women wear a headscarf. The road from the highway is short but the last stretch is a village one, and in wet weather a dry day is the better choice.
