Khaishi is a large village in the Enguri valley, on the road from Zugdidi to Mestia; most travellers pass it on their way up to Zemo Svaneti. The village church is dedicated to St. George - the most frequent dedication in these parts.
The church stands close to the highway, so it is easier to find than most mountain shrines: just turn into the village. All around is the Enguri gorge with steep wooded slopes; downstream the road runs towards Jvari, upstream the Svan communities begin.
If you are driving to Mestia, Khaishi makes a convenient stop to rest and look into the church. Dress modestly and keep quiet inside; if the doors are closed, you can still walk up to the shrine.
