A place of prayer that is called an okhvame here. The word is not Georgian but Mingrelian and translates as a place of prayer. In Samegrelo it covers both full churches and small family shrines that a household visits on its own days.
Tagiloni lies in the north-western part of Samegrelo, right at the edge of the region, reached by a turning off the district road. Mingrelian lives here alongside Georgian and shows most clearly in place names: the names of villages, localities and shrines are mostly Mingrelian. What the first word in this shrine name stands for no one undertakes to explain, so we will not translate it at a guess.
The place is Christian and in use, with services held rarely. Dress modestly, women wear a headscarf. Behave more quietly than usual: prayer places of this kind belong to a community and follow its ways.
