The church is dedicated to John the Baptist and carries the second name Veltkevi. What stands behind the first word is not explained: in Racha such prefixes usually point to a tract or to a part of the slope to which a parish belongs.
The place belongs to Zemo Skhvava yet stands markedly apart from the other shrines of the village: almost six kilometres to the church of the Archangel, almost seven to the Trinity one. Nearest of all is the church of Putieti, about five kilometres. Ambrolauri is some thirteen kilometres away.
The distance to the neighbours is greater than the village name suggests, so follow the coordinates. The road is a mountain one and softens between seasons, and the last kilometres are better taken in dry weather. Dress modestly, keep quiet inside, leave offerings untouched.
