The church is known as one of the Cross and is also referred to as a church of the Saviour. The two dedications are linked: the feast of the Exaltation of the Cross and the days of the Saviour stand close in the Georgian calendar, and on one altar they sit together without contradiction.
Chashleti lies in the south west of Racha, away from the main Rioni valley. The place is quiet and secluded: the nearest Racha shrines are scattered more than six kilometres off, and Tkibuli and Tskaltubo are each some twenty kilometres away by mountain roads.
The road here runs along wooded slopes and softens between seasons, so dry days are the better choice. The church is a village one, services are not held every day, yet it can always be approached. Dress modestly, keep quiet inside, leave offerings untouched. Signal in this part of Racha is not reliable everywhere.
