The name of the place is assembled from three parts: the monastery of the nasoplari of Bubi, the Bubi cross in brackets, and a separate note of ruins. Nasoplari in Georgian means the site where a village once stood: both the house and the settlement itself are here a thing of the past.

The place lies three kilometres from Shovi, at the very head of Racha, at the foot of the main Caucasus range. The valley here is narrow, the road climbs along the river, and there are no neighbouring shrines nearby at all: the closest churches of the district are scattered twenty five kilometres away, closer to Oni.

The road into this valley is a mountain one and changes from season to season, so its condition is worth checking in advance with locals or the municipal administration. Ruins are what remains: the stones are not moved, the foundation is not stepped on, nothing is taken away.

💡 Tip

  • The ruins of a house on the site of a vanished village
  • Three kilometres from Shovi, the head of Racha
