The Holy Trinity Monastery stands on a ridge above the Aleuri Gorge, a left tributary of the Ksani River. The ascent is by foot. Visitors report that on a clear day, the view of the mountains opens up from the top, and a local priest welcomes guests.
The monastery takes its name from the Aleuri Trinity. This is the name of an 8th-9th-century church in the same gorge: a single-nave church on a mountain ridge north of the Lotsobani Fortress, known as the "Trinity with Golden Gates." According to Dmitry Bakradze, the church itself is consecrated in the name of the Virgin Mary, not the Trinity. The site was considered famous and wealthy. The historic Aleuri Trinity is located in the Akhalgori District.
A special mention should be made of the road, which is more important than anything else here. The monastery lies between the village of Korinta to the west and Tsikhisdziri to the east, in the area adjacent to the line dividing Georgian-controlled territory from the Tskhinvali Region. The Ksani Gorge has been under the control of the de facto authorities since 2008, and detentions are regularly recorded along this line.
