  • Description

In the heart of the Tetritskaro Mountains, surrounded by picturesque nature, lies the majestic Jvara Church, also known as “Mtavarangelozi” or the Church of the Archangel Jvari. Its history goes back to the 11th century, when it was built. Despite temporary trials, the surviving parts of this architectural masterpiece still delight and inspire with their grandeur.

Diving into its atmosphere, you will discover the splendor of the church vault and the piercing beauty of the conch, carrying the aroma of centuries. Although the walls have been battered by time and the southern wing has been destroyed, every crack and every corner of this place carries a unique story.

On the eastern facade of the church you will find a lapidary inscribed stone, like a mysterious message from the past, and to the southwest and northeast of the building rise stone steles, each of which seems to be the embodiment of the spirit of the times.

Walking through the church yard, your gaze may be caught by the Verdzi grave stone, which literally transports you to the past when sheep grazed on these slopes.

Jvara Church is not just a historical landmark. This is a place where history merges with nature, where every stone carries its own history, where every corner is permeated with the spirit of the past. A visit to this place will allow you to feel the grandeur of time and feel the amazing energy of this ancient church.
