The church is dedicated to the Virgin Mary, and that is all that is said about it with certainty: it carries neither a second name nor a qualifying description. Such reticence is ordinary among the rural parishes of Kakheti.
The name of the village translates literally: tetri tsklebi means white waters. It lies between Sagarejo and Telavi, in the foothill belt at the base of the Gombori range, over which runs the short road from Tbilisi to Telavi. The church stands in the built-up part, among the yards.
There is no fixed schedule of services, but the village is lively and it is usually possible to step inside. The rules are those of any working church: covered shoulders and knees, quiet inside. The detour is short and fits well into a route over the Gombori pass.
