The church of Saint Sergius of Radonezh stands in Gombori village in Sagarejo Municipality and stands out markedly among Kakhetian churches: its forms are taken from Russian architecture. Sources date the building to eighteen eighty eight.
The plan is close to a rectangle, closed on the east by a pointed apse under a roof of its own, while a two tier bell tower gate adjoined it on the west. The bell tower collapsed and a slate roof was made in its place. The building is laid mostly of Russian brick, with roughly worked stone ashlars supplementing the masonry on the facades here and there, and smoother stones picked out to frame the doors and windows.
All four facades are marked at the corners by vertical brick pilasters. The decoration is restrained: a strict profile around the doors and windows and a single band of geometric brickwork along the long walls. Large rectangular windows give the light, and the doorway of the west facade is dressed with two round stone colonnettes.
