A parish church of the Holy Trinity. The prefix kvemo works just as the Imeretian kveda does: it marks the lower part of a village. Pona is divided into an upper and a lower half, and the Trinity church belongs to the lower one.
Trinity churches in Georgia were usually raised as the main church of a community: the feast is a moveable one, falling in midsummer, and in a village it coincides with the busiest season. Pona lies north of Lagodekhi, in eastern Kakheti. The century of building is not established.
The yard is open and can be approached at any time on any day. The church is in use: dress modestly, women customarily cover their heads, and keep quiet inside.
