Chiatura Local Museum

The Museum of Local Lore is located in the center of the city of Chiatura in Georgia, it is located in the municipality building. The exhibition fund has more than 13,000 exhibits related to the geology, paleontology and ethnography of the Imereti region.

Many samples in the exhibition were found as a result of archaeological excavations, in particular a bronze axe, women's jewelry and spearheads dated to the 3rd century BC. In the same hall, visitors can see the artwork of local craftsmen, documentary materials and paintings.

Chiatura is known for finding and producing manganese in this region, later A. Tsereteli headed the business of industrial extraction of manganese ores. The museum's rich collection contains Paleolithic and Mesolithic stone scrapers, fossilized vertebrae of sharks and sea urchins. The central element of the exhibition is products made of Chiatura ceramics.
