The church in Jruchi bears the name of St Ilarion Kartveli, that is Ilarion the Georgian. He is venerated as an ascetic who left to pray beyond his native land and was glorified far from it.
Jruchi lies north of Sachkhere, in the hills above the valley. The place is known as one of the old church centres of this part of Imereti, visited by pilgrims and travellers alike.
