  • Description

In the heart of the Imereti region, in the municipality of Zestafoni, is the majestic Shorapani Castle. This historical artifact, mentioned in sources since ancient times, represents a real fortress from the times of ancient Kartli. Originally erected at the beginning of the 3rd century BC. By decree of King Farnavaz I, the castle quickly became not only an important strategic point, but also a place where the cultures of East and West merged.

The history of Shorapani, like the pages of old chronicles, is intertwined with military events, including the Iranian-Byzantine war in the 6th century. Shorapani Castle, as a living witness of time, survived the occupation by the Ottomans in 1730 and the reunification with King Solomon I in 1770.

This fortified city served not only a military purpose, but was also an important trading hub. The shipping road, ending at Shorapani, began its journey into land, becoming a bridge between the eastern and western countries. The castle city became not only a meeting place for military strategies, but also a center of trade and cultural exchange. Here was a caravanserai, where traders and passengers found comfort and food, and blacksmith shops that provided land transport services.

Today, Shorapani Castle retains its historical significance, reflecting two chronological layers in its architecture - the early and late feudal era. The area of this amazing place exceeds 6000 square meters, and a variety of buildings from different periods add piquancy to its appearance.

We invite everyone who wants to plunge into the rich history of Georgia to visit Shorapani Castle. Here, every stone carries memories of antiquity, and the atmosphere of this place will make you walk through the centuries and feel the greatness of history on your own skin.
