Kakaskhidi (Kaki Bridge), Imereti, Georgia
- Description
The bridge, located south of the village of Kakaskhidi on the left bank of the Khanistskali River, is a unique historical site at an altitude of 600 meters above sea level. Here is a road bridge cast in the 19th century at Gustave Eiffel's factory in France. This bridge not only connects the “Zekari Gorge” with Baghdat villages, but also bears witness to numerous historical events. “Crossed the Kaki Bridge” is an expression rooted in the history of Imereti, symbolizing the irretrievable loss or end of hopes.
The location is ideal for historians, explorers, adventure lovers and anyone interested in cultural heritage and unique architectural structures. The bridge is part of one of the oldest caravan routes towards southern Georgia, which adds to its special significance. Located 240 km from Tbilisi, 15 km from Baghdati and 45 km from Kutaisi, this site invites visitors not only to immerse themselves in history, but also to enjoy the magnificent scenery of the surrounding nature.

“Crossed the Kaki Bridge,” they say in Imereti, when the case is definitely lost, or the goods are missing. One of the oldest caravan routes towards southern Georgia passed through Kakaskhidi. If the pursuer caught up with a prisoner who had escaped in Lower Imereti before he managed to reach Kakaskhidi, then there was still a chance to return him, but if the prisoner crossed the bridge, then there was no longer any hope of catching him.

Окружённый живописной природой и рекой, этот мост стал для меня символом связи времён и источником вдохновения для новых статей о культурном наследии Грузии.
