Kaloti Church is a medieval stone church in the mountain village of Kalota, a monument of the spiritual heritage of upper Adjara. The building belongs to the constellation of ancient churches scattered along the gorges above the Adjaristskali and is dated to the eleventh to thirteenth centuries.
The road here is part of the experience in itself: the hairpins of mountain Adjara, terraced villages and bridges over the rushing river. Kalota lies off the Goderdzi road, and the church goes to those ready to leave the main route for the sake of stone masonry and mountain silence.
The church is seen at any time: the place is open, with no ticket desks or fences. The mountain road is winding: allow spare time and pick dry weather, as the hairpins ask for caution in the rain.
