How to move with a cat or a dog from Minsk to Georgia - a detailed instruction
Further everything will be based on the example of cats, because I myself moved with cats, and it works the same way for dogs.
For entry into Georgia with animals, no special vaccinations are required, as Georgia adheres to all international norms. Your cat will need a microchip, passport, deworming, a general vaccination "against all diseases," and a rabies vaccination (I may forget something, but veterinarians at clinics know what needs to be done and are aware of the requirements for each country). With a rabies vaccination, quarantine is 21 days - make sure to factor this time in from the beginning. If the cat is not microchipped but is vaccinated, the cat will need to be revaccinated because the vaccine needs to be given after the microchip is implanted.
You have two main friends in preparing your cat: the airport veterinary control (you can find the phone number in the airport directory), who will approve your departure from the country, and the regional state veterinary clinic, where we microchipped the cats and obtained passports (phone numbers can be easily found through a Google search). The nuance with these state veterinary clinics: I encountered two different opinions, that we should go to the state veterinary clinic where the cat actually lives or where it is registered or where the owner of the cat has an official lease agreement. We went to the one located near the owner's registered address and everything went smoothly. I recommend calling them before leaving, as we once wasted a trip because the only veterinarian was "out on a call."
So, you arrive at the state veterinary clinic and tell them that you want to take your cat out of the country, and the veterinarian will clarify where, because he is better oriented than you, if there are any special rules for the destination country. You do everything the veterinarian says, he implants the microchip and issues passports to you.
If you are traveling as a couple, I recommend including both of you as owners and asking that this information be included in the passport and microchip. Here I remind you about the 21-day quarantine.
How the cat will fly. An animal weighing up to 8 kg can fly in the cabin with a carrier, but larger animals can only fly in the cargo hold :(
Sedatives for the trip. First of all: Belavia's rules state that the animal should not be under any sedative or calming agent. What we did: we consulted with a veterinarian, he prescribed a sedative and explained how to use it. We mixed it with a special treat that our cats love so much that we are willing to sell our souls for it.
The cat is microchipped, so you will need to wait for quarantine. Buying tickets: you can only buy a ticket for your pet at the Belavia ticket office, it's not possible to do it on their website. Belavia has certain sanitary restrictions regarding the number of cats allowed on board, so this is an important detail to keep in mind. It's better to buy all tickets, including the one for your pet, at the ticket office. The ticket for the animal to travel in the cabin costs 50 euros. Important clarification: only one animal per person is allowed in the cabin. However, in the cargo hold, one person can carry up to five animals. You can read the rules for transporting animals in the cargo hold on Belavia's website.
Transportation: in short, Belavia has very strict restrictions on the size of the carrier. Our carrier was 5 cm taller than allowed, but no one checked it. The main thing is that it should fit under the seat in front of the passenger. I saw a girl traveling with her cat in a full-sized carrier, but it's still better to play it safe and choose a smaller carrier. For more information, you can check out these useful links (click here and here).
Five days before departure, you need to go to the state veterinary clinic and get a certificate (a document) of the first form. This is necessary for traveling, and the veterinarians will know what you need. It took us an hour to get the certificate for our two cats. They will simply check your cat, look at its passport and microchip and issue the certificate. The certificate should be obtained no earlier than 5 days before the flight. I recommend double-checking that there are no errors in the microchip number on the certificate, as it is entered manually.
On the day of departure, you should arrive at the airport three hours early. Before the check-in counter, you need to go to the veterinary control (ask for directions at the information desk, it's not easy to explain). There your certificate will be exchanged for another document, and then you can proceed to check-in. After that, no one will be particularly interested in your cats, and everything will be the same as usual.
Have a good flight!
