Athletes-applicants who have represented Georgia at world competitions will have a chance to enter universities

Opportunities for applicants who took part in international sports competitions and missed the Unified National Exams are expanding. The Ministry of Education and Science has made a decision that will allow these athletes to enroll in higher education institutions.

According to the new order issued by the Minister of Education and Science, there will be a special quota for participants of the Olympic Games, Paralympics, world championships and European championships, as well as other prestigious sporting events. This quota will give them the opportunity to enroll in universities, even if they could not take part in the Unified National Exams.

Interestingly, the Ministry will consider each case individually and decide on conditional admission to the university for a period of one year after submitting the application. This means that athletes-applicants will be able to start their studies, despite the lack of results of Unified national exams.

However, already in the next academic year, these students will still be required to pass the Unified National Exams in order to continue their education at the university. This measure is designed to ensure fairness and equal conditions for all applicants.

This initiative will also apply to applicants who were unable to pass the exams due to active participation in competitions in the current academic year. Thus, Georgia continues to strive to support and encourage sports-gifted youth, providing them with new opportunities for higher education."
