International investments in alpine skiing: Construction of training bases in Svaneti

A unique project is emerging in Georgia – the construction of training bases for skiers in the mountainous Svaneti, designed throughout the year. A memorandum of cooperation between MTA LLC (Mountain Trails Agency), the Georgian Ski Federation and the International Ski Federation (FIS) has been signed, and the project is already attracting attention. This cooperation will make it possible to conduct economic and technical research with the participation of international and local experts.

During the meeting with the Secretary General of the FIS, Michel Vion, the Head of the Ministry of Economy of Georgia Levan Davitashvili and the leadership of the Georgian Ski Federation discussed the importance of infrastructural development of winter resorts in the country. The successful Freestyle, Snowboarding and Frisky World Championships held in Bakuriani in 2023 confirmed that Georgia is capable of hosting high-level international tournaments.

Svaneti has great potential for creating training bases offering various conditions for teams in a variety of disciplines. The project of four-season bases received the support of Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and FIS President Johan Elias. This cooperation will provide skiers with optimal conditions for training and competitions throughout the year.

The holding of the Freestyle, Snowboard and Frisky World Championships in Bakuriani has become a significant event for Georgia. This event brought together about 700 athletes from 42 countries who participated in 30 competitions in seven sports. Georgia has allocated 270 million lari for this prestigious championship, which is about $ 100 million.

International investments and cooperation with FIS and other partners will create favorable conditions for the development of skiing in Georgia. The construction of training bases in Svaneti helps attract the attention of athletes, tourists and investors, as well as provide unique opportunities for training and competitions in one of the most beautiful and picturesque regions of the country.
