Georgian judo star has won a license for the Olympics
The European Championship, which was held in Montpellier, brought not only four silver medals to Georgia. Georgian judoka - Eter Askilashvili has become the owner of a license to participate in the Olympic Games next year, which will be held in Paris. For Georgia, this means that it will be represented with all its might at the 2024 Olympics.
It is worth noting that the distribution of these licenses is based on a complex system of quotas and points. These quotas are assigned to each continent. Their number is limited. They are distributed among the judokas with the highest scores in the ranking, regardless of the athlete's gender and weight category. Each National Olympic Committee is entitled to one quota. In addition, each continent has another quota for team competitions. This special quota allows teams to get a sixth quota if they qualified only for five athletes. This, in turn, will allow them to participate in mixed team competitions.
In the fight for licenses, Georgia took second place in Europe, athletes scored 103,970 points. France took the lead, with 185,152 points. Due to the fact that the French, as hosts of the upcoming Olympics, have guaranteed licenses, the extra quotas were transferred to Georgia.
