Prospects of the resort of Shovi: plans of the state
The resort of Shovi, where a landslide occurred that killed 32 people, will be transformed into a forest area, said the governor of the Racha-Lechkhumi - Kvemo Svaneti region, Papuna Margvelidze. This popular Georgian alpine resort was almost completely destroyed by a landslide that occurred on August 3.
The governor noted that in the place where the greatest destruction occurred, there are no plans to restore the resort infrastructure. Probably, there will be a rebirth of the forest. At the same time, a memorial will be created to remember the tragedy.
However, the authorities have also developed a concept for a new resort and have already created a working group with the participation of the Ministry of Economy. The Governor expressed confidence in the prospects of the development of Shovi. He noted that, despite the potential risks, it is possible to develop a resort in safe places and eventually create a resort that works all year round.
It is also planned to participate in all state programs that are currently being implemented in Georgia, the village of Glola, near Shovi.
