How to get to the highland town of Shatili after the temporary closure of the road
The reason for this ban is the collapse of the rocky ground near the village of Gudani. The information was received from the Department of Highways of Georgia, which will inform when the blockage will be cleared and traffic on the road will be open.
It is interesting to note that the village of Shatili itself is one of the highest mountain settlements in Georgia. It is famous for its medieval towers, which miraculously survived almost in their original condition. They are a cultural heritage and Shatili has applied for inclusion in the list of UNESCO World Cultural Heritage sites.
At the same time, about fifty people live in the Shatili community, and a little more than twenty residents live in the village.
At the moment, the road services are actively working to clean up the collapsed rocks and restore the roadway on the passing route. Representatives of the Department of Highways promise to regularly inform about the progress of work on this site.
In the meantime, motorists will have to look for alternative routes to reach Shatili. After all, despite its small population, this place attracts many tourists with its atmosphere and landscapes.
