Changing the traffic mode on the Rikot Pass: New time limits

The travel time for passenger cars on the Rikot Pass increases, making changes to the driving mode. According to the Department of Highways of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, a special regime will be in effect from June 17, which provides for a three-hour increase in travel time for passenger cars and passenger transport.

The Rikoti Pass, which is an important transport hub between Eastern and Western Georgia, was temporarily closed at the end of March due to the threat of a landslide. However, after conducting research and analysis, traffic on the highway was resumed with restrictions: during the day, the movement of passenger cars and passenger transport is allowed, and at night – trucks.

The new rules of movement on the Rikot Pass will come into force from 6:00 a.m. on June 17. According to them, passenger cars and passenger transport will be able to move from 06:00 in the morning to 21:00 in the evening. The movement of vehicles with trailers and semi-trailers will be allowed in both directions from 23:00 to 05:00.

It is important to note that constant monitoring will continue at the Rikot Pass in order to ensure safety and timely response to any possible problems. It is also worth noting that on another interstate highway Gomi-Sachkhere-Chiatura-Zestafoni, the movement of passenger cars will be free at any time of the day or night.

This new rule of movement on the Rikot Pass is designed to ensure a more flexible and efficient use of road infrastructure. From 7:00 am to 19:00 pm, only passenger cars will be allowed to move on the road section from the 114th kilometer (Akhalsopeli interchange) to the 194th kilometer (Zestafoni) of the Tbilisi-Senaki-Leselidze highway. From 21:00 pm to 6:00 am, only trucks will be able to move. The trucks will move under the strict control of patrols without stopping and unilaterally, with the possibility of changing the direction of movement if necessary.
