Modernization of Tbilisi metro stations will begin in 2025
The Tbilisi Transport Company has announced the planned modernization of metro stations in the capital of Georgia from 2025. The five-year reconstruction project of 12 stations involves successive changes starting from the beginning of next year. The company's CEO, Georgy Sharkov, stressed the importance of this event for improving the transport infrastructure.
The decision to allocate 475 million euros from the state budget for the purchase of 212 modern metro cars was also made by the Government of Georgia. There are 13 trains for the Saburtalo line, and 32 trains for the Akhmeteli-Varketili line. It is expected that the tender for construction will be announced in early 2025, after which a specific schedule for the implementation of work at each station will be determined.
"We are facing the problem of outdated metro infrastructure, and our goal is to modernize efficiently and thoroughly, avoiding damage to passenger traffic," Sharkov said. During the reconstruction process, it is possible to simultaneously restore two or three stations, which will allow the project to be completed in five years.
