The increase in prices for intercity transport in Georgia may affect passengers in the near future
Irakli Kabulashvili, director of the intercity transportation operator Omnibus Express, explained that the cost of tickets could be increased by 15-20% by his company after October 15 due to rising prices for gasoline and diesel fuel.
The main reason for the rise in the price of motor fuel was the cessation of gasoline exports by Russia to stabilize prices within the Russian Federation. Gasoline and diesel fuel supplies from the Russian Federation are the main ones for Georgia, which has affected prices. The increase in fuel prices for Omnibus Express was more than 35% in September. Irakli Kabulashvili noted that the increase in fuel prices also leads to an increase in logistics costs. Taxi drivers engaged in the transportation of passengers from Tbilisi also speak about the mandatory recalculation of tariffs due to the increase in the cost of fuel.
However, not all bus companies have decided to increase the fare. For example, Georgia Metro buses will continue to carry passengers at established fares. At the same time, the owners of intercity transport warn of a possible increase in the price of travel in certain directions by the end of October. For example, a trip from Tbilisi to Batumi by minibus can rise from today's thirty-five lari to forty-five (about 17 US dollars).
